Fat Joe openly admitted to not paying federal income taxes in December 2012. Now, the platinum-selling artist is sentenced to four months in prison.
Fat Joe, who is better known as Joesph Cartagena, publicly apologized to his family and supporters in Newark, N.J. before being sentenced in federal court.
U.S. Magistrate Cathy Waldor says “she took into consideration the government’s allegation that Cartagena failed to taxes on some $3 million in income for years 2007 through 2010, an estimated tax loss to the government of $718,038.”
The reason why Fat Joe was sentenced in New Jersey because some of the companies that earn him money are based in Somerville.
